The Great Lakes ADA Center in collaboration with the ADA National Network invites you to attend the December ADA Audio Conference Series session titled “The Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA) and Travelers with Disabilities: Travel by Air with Service Animals“. The session will feature Robert M Gorman, Senior Trial Attorney, Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings, U.S. Department of Transportation.

Session Description:

The Air Carrier Access Act of 1986 (ACAA) prohibits discrimination based on disability in air travel and requires air carriers to accommodate the needs of passengers with disabilities. Join us as our speaker from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) discusses the final statement of enforcement priorities for service animals under the ACAA. The session will also address the role the Aviation Enforcement and Proceedings has in enforcing the ACAA. Following the presentation participants will have an opportunity to ask the presenter questions about ACAA requirements.

The Great Lakes ADA Center in collaboration with the Southwest ADA Center and the ADA National Network is pleased to announce the next session in the ADA Legal Webinar Series which will be held on Wednesday, November 20, 2019. The topic is “Our Favorite Inappropriate Questions Under the ADA: Legal and Practical Considerations” featuring Diego Demaya, JD, Legal Specialist, Southwest ADA Center at ILRU.

Description: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, state and local government programs, public accommodations, commercial facilities, transportation, and telecommunications. This webinar will touch on a variety of improper questions as they pertain to ADA:

* Title I (Employment)
* Title II (Public Entities)
* Title III (Public Accommodations)

Can an employer ask what a person’s disability is? Can a restaurant ask a service dog owner for a demonstration to prove they have a disability? Can a public school ask for a doctor’s note to grant a parent a reasonable accommodation when dropping off or picking up their child on the campus? Can an automobile dealership require a person to have a driver’s license in order to purchase a vehicle? When is a question merely offensive versus discriminatory? Join us as we discuss and compare questions like these as well as applicable cases and their legal considerations.

Employee leave under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) continues to be confusing for both employees and employers. Join us for this session as our speaker explains the ADA requirements when it comes to leave, both as an employee benefit and as a reasonable accommodation, and how these requirements fit with the requirement to grant medical leave to employees under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Following the presentation participants will have an opportunity to ask questions of the speaker.
